About the Lab

The Garst Out-of-School Time Lab at Clemson University is a research group that conducts social science research exploring questions associated with out-of-school time (OST) youth development programs and settings. Specifically, the lab is currently studying:

  • impact of summer camp experiences on social-emotional, cognitive, and health outcomes in youth,

  • influence of parental anxiety and overparenting within the context of youth development programs,

  • relationship between program provider intention toward outcomes and received outcomes in youth,

  • program implementation factors that contribute to positive youth development outcomes.
